Jewel Cafe/Bar

Actually, I didn't plan to visit this cafe. My friend and I suddenly saw this cafe while passing by. The exterior look really caught my attention and we came back after we visited L'etoile Cafe. The big painting on the wall looks beautiful and sometimes, they will change the painting once in a while. I like it how they make the entrance to the cafe so visible that you can see everything inside.
This is the interior look of the cafe. It's small but spacious because they only have around 4 or 5 tables inside. Other than that, it looks very nice with all the lightings. Exterior and interior look have this victorian feel where it's somehow vintage, classy and beautiful.Everything seems to be made of wood and copper. We just stayed for a while so we didn't went up to the 2nd floor.
The ceiling is just barely concrete with this hanging boards and hanging bulbs. I find the hanging boards weird and dull but somehow I find it unique because it compliments the interior look and it also reflects the light from the bulbs to the whole place, creating this certain ambiance to it.
They even have their menu clipped on to the clipboard and put it at the shelf ledge together with magazines on the other side of the room.
My friend ordered a hot latte and I ordered a iced chocolate only. We didn't order any food because we were too full from eating at L'etoile Cafe. But then, just for a hot latte and iced chocolate, it's already expensive respectively. The hot latte costs around $8 while mine costs around $7.50 however my friend said that the hot latte taste more better than the hot latte she ordered at Cups N Canvas  while mine taste like an ordinary iced chocolate.

I feel that Jewel Cafe/Bar is more of a place where you can meet up with your friends or a place to bring your date there. It's really a nice place with beautiful ambiance and interior and exterior design. Based on yelp.com, the reviews for this cafe is rated at 2.5/5.

Based on my opinion, I felt that it should be rated at 3.5/5 because of the cafe's look and the service. However, if it's based on the food and drinks, then it would be rated at 2.5/5.

L'etoile Cafe

It took some time for my friend and I to finally find this cafe. It is at some secluded area in Owen Road. Thankfully, we had GPS in our phones to guide us along. The moment we saw L'etoile and its inside look, it was really worth the long and tiring distance walk from Farrer Park MRT. The exterior look is nothing but just one word. Pretty! It's so modern and simple.

L'etoile is quite unique like its name itself. Based on "weekend eat what" blog, its name means "star" in French. It's a 2-storey shop house French-themed Japanese cafe as well.

I love this part of the first floor the most. It has the look of how a home would look like. It looks so cosy and comfortable to just chill on the sofa. It's really refreshing.
Welcome to 2nd storey of L'etoile Cafe! It's so big and spacious. It felt like home. I have not seen any cafes like this so far. I really love how they mismatch different types of furniture and create this nice and cosy environment. I was completely mesmerized by everything in the room.
Inner part of 2nd storey

Nice painting on the wall. It really do match with the interior look.
They even have an old grandfather clock near the entrance.
They also have this old shelve at the corner where water pitcher and glass cups are at. Surprisingly, they even have waiters and waitresses at 2nd floor as well. Behind the shelve is where the staffs usually wait on their customers there.
A vintage sewing machine table is used as a dining table. It's quite creative actually as they add a vintage feel to the ambiance.
The menu are all hand written. I really appreciate the person's hard work and effort in writing all the menu by himself. Nice and readable handwriting and drawings.
Vietnamese Beef Pho - $14.90
Aglio Olio with bacon - $14,90
I ordered Vietnamese Beef Pho and my friend ordered Aglio Olio with bacon together with a glass of orange juice. I really find the food very delicious and their prices are quite reasonable as well.
L'etoile Cafe also sells handmade things for displays and accessories. They're quite pretty and cute especially the top picture and a little pricey.

Overall, L'etoile cafe is the best looking cafe I've seen of all the cafes I have visited. Having a vintage, modern and French-Japanese feel create this beautiful, peaceful and cosy ambiance to it. There is also good promotions which you should also take a look.

Based on yelp.com, this cafe is rated at 3.5 but I feel that it should be rated at 4/5, 3.5/5 for food, 4/5 for service and 4.5/5 for its interior look.

Cups N Canvas

The moment I saw Cups N Canvas at Selegie Road, it was quite dull for me. The outside look wasn’t that attractive.
Surprisingly, as I stepped in the cafe, it's a whole different look. It wasn't what I expected. The inside look being vintage and has a rundown look create this ambiance to it.

I also agree with Amasou, Umasou saying that 'this retro chic cafe blends the art elements pretty well into its earthly-toned interior, complete with a strong but cosy oriental touch'.
I like how they used simple-looking wooden tables and chairs and furniture to create a very relaxing and cosy feeling. You will feel so relaxed and it’s really peaceful when you’re just doing your work as time passes by.

Other than that, they also have art pieces hanging on this very nice wooden roller shutter which is used in the past to lock the shops and some other parts of the café.

A nice Alfresco area to chill

Top: Hot Mocha Latte - $5.30
Bottom: Hot Caramel Latte - $5.30
I ordered a hot caramel latte while my friend ordered a hot mocha latte. Caramel latte tasted not bad. Its taste is just like how would a typical caramel latte taste like. I don't really think it's worth $5.30 for a small glass cup of latte. However, what I like about it is the glass cup. It looks so cute and unique!
Art Studio
Not only it’s a café, it also has an art studio beside it. Quite cool and interesting to see an art studio part of the café. So

those who love to paint, you should visit Cups N Canvas. Based on trip advisor, Cups N Canvas is rated 3 stars

In my opinion, the service and ambiance is excellent (ratings: 4/5) and the food/drinks is average(ratings: 3/4) and its price is somehow a little expensive and affordable so not bad for an artsy cafe.
